Scott Dettra, Assistant Director and Keyboard Artist
Scott Dettra is Organist and Associate Director of Music at
Washington National Cathedral, where he is the principal organist and
assists with the direction of the Cathedral choirs. One of the finest concert
organists of his generation, his performances are known for their clarity,
rhythmic intensity, and musical elegance. In addition to his work at
Washington National Cathedral, Mr. Dettra is also Keyboard Artist of the
Washington Bach Consort and organist of The Crossing, Philadelphia's new
music choir.
Mr. Dettra performs extensively throughout the United States
and Canada under the management of Karen McFarlane Artists. He has
performed at national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the
Association of Anglican Musicians, and the Association of Lutheran Church
Musicians. Festival appearances include the Lincoln Center Festival, the
Carmel Bach Festival, the Arizona Bach Festival, the Bermuda Music
Festival, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
His debut recording, Tongues of Fire, features French music
performed on the 325-rank organ of the Cadet Chapel at West Point, and
may be found on the Pro Organo label. Majestus, on the Loft label, features
large-scale organ favorites performed on the Great Organ of Washington
National Cathedral.
A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Mr. Dettra holds two degrees
from Westminster Choir College and has also studied jazz piano at
Manhattan School of Music. His principal organ teachers have been Joan
Lippincott, Dennis Keene, and his father, Lee Dettra.
Andrew Fouts, Concertmaster
Andrew Fouts is quickly becoming one of the country's leading performers on the baroque violin. In performance he has been noted for his "mellifluous sound and sensitive style" (Washington Post) and as "an extraordinary violinist" who exhibits "phenomenal control"(Bloomington Herald-Times), while the Lincoln Journal-Star wrote that his "talent challenges the top soloists of today's classical stage." He studied at the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University, where his principal teachers were Charles Castleman and Stanley Ritchie, respectively. In 2008 Andrew won first prize at the American Bach Soloists' International Baroque Violin Competition. That same year he joined Pittsburgh's acclaimed trio, Chatham Baroque, which performs over 50 concerts annually, both at home and on tour. In addition to Chatham Baroque's schedule, this past season Andrew has performed extensively with The Four Nations Ensemble, on European tour with Apollo's Fire, and as concertmaster for The Washington Bach Consort. He has also performed with Philharmonia Baroque, Musica Pacifica, The National Cathedral Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, Quince, American Opera Theater, and as concertmaster for the Bloomington Early Music Festival Orchestra.
